🚗 Sweetgrass in the Car

Sweetgrass does not need to be burned to be worked with spiritually.

Many people keep a braid in their vehicle as a symbol of protection, safe travel, blessing, and positive energy.

It may be placed on the dashboard, in the glove compartment, or another secure area where it will not interfere with driving.

Do not burn Sweetgrass inside a vehicle.

Our Sweetgrass comes from a family business in Canada that braids and prepares the grass with care.

Because Sweetgrass holds important cultural and spiritual significance for many Indigenous peoples, we encourage customers to approach it respectfully and to avoid presenting general smoke-cleansing practices as traditional Indigenous ceremony unless they are actually participating in that tradition.

🔥 If You Choose to Burn Sweetgrass

Sweetgrass may be burned carefully in small amounts.

Light the end briefly and allow it to catch, then gently extinguish the open flame so the braid smolders.

You may also gently separate or break off a small amount rather than burning the entire braid at once.

Always use a proper fire-safe cauldron, cast-iron ritual dish, loose-herb burner, or another heat-resistant vessel.

🌿 Smoke Cleansing vs. Smudging

Smoke cleansing is the broad spiritual practice of working with botanical smoke.

Smudging refers to specific sacred ceremonial practices belonging to particular Indigenous peoples and traditions. The terms should not automatically be used interchangeably.

Never leave burning or smoldering Sweetgrass unattended.

Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface and keep away from children, pets, curtains, bedding, clothing, paper, furniture, and other flammable materials.
